Cable Recycling

Cables are an essential element of electrical and electronic equipment and are made of a plastic body and contain copper and aluminium. Cables hold an important place among recyclable waste as they are coated with PVC and polyethylene type of plastics for safety reasons; whereas contain copper, silver and brass wires for conductivity. For these reasons, after completing their life cycle, cables must be included in the recycling process. Examples of cables that can be subject to recycling are:
  • Cables used in information and communication tools (telephone, fax, copier, printer, television and so on)
  • Cables used in household goods (laundry, dishwasher, refrigerator, etc.)
  • Cables used in local telecommunications networks (telephone plants, telephone lines or fiber optic cables used for data transfer)

In the past, methods used to reach the copper and aluminum inside the cables included burning the plastic. This would release toxic gases, which constitute a threat to the environment and human health, and make it impossible to re-use the PVC. The burning processes release carcinogenic substances, such as dioxins, and heavy metals, such as selenium and cadmium, into the air, water and soil thereby polluting the environment.

Recycling cables without damaging the environment requires expertise, experience and technical competence. Evciler has made investments and the resulting environmental innovations and technological methods are used to recycle cables. Waste cables go through the shredder, the plastic and wires are separated and then returned to a raw material form in order to be used once again by the industry.
